Last January 11th, the Interpretation Centre of the Lines of Torres Vedras (CILT) has been visited by the president of the Friends of the Lines of Torres Vedras.
The Friends of the Lines of Torres Vedras are a group of people interested in the theme of the Peninsular War, and particularly the Lines of Torres Vedras. Formed after a parliamentary visit to Portugal, in July 2009, it aims to raise public awareness of the importance of the Lines of Torres Vedras, to help to conserve the lines, to improve facilities for interpretation on site, to encourage research and to increase awareness of their contribution to the military history and for the Anglo-Portuguese relations.
Throughout their existence they had visited several times the Lines of Torres Vedras, always in contact with the Historical Route of the Lines of Torres Vedras (RHLT), now was the time of their new president Andrew Dismore to know on the field the work that RHLT has been developing.
During the visit, it was held a meeting with the Chairman of the Board of Association for Heritage Tourism Development of the lines of Torres Vedras, José Alberto Quintino, the representative of the British Historical Society of Portugal, Clive Gilbert and municipalities of Loures, Mafra and Sobral de Monte Agraço. At this meeting, the president of RHLT requested to the president of the Friends of the Lines of Torres Vedras support for the dissemination and promotion of RHLT as a tourist and cultural destination in the United Kingdom.
